THE MOST VALUABLE FASHION LESSON

Years ago, I studied abroad in Italy and my teacher who I considered her to be incredibly stylish, would show up to my Monday, Wednesday, Friday classes looking like the epitome of the classic italian woman. To be honest, I noticed the large amounts of black and white she would wear, but it took me 2 weeks to actually notice that she almost always had the same belt on, would wear her white perfectly white shirt at least once a week and the handbag was always the same. She wore little jewelry and her black stilettos were an everyday thing. I learned two big lessons back then: less is more and learning about investment pieces is essential.

Even though you may think I rarely repeat outfits, I do, A LOT. My closet is much smaller than you probably think and that's because I am not a hoarder and I actually consider myself a smart shopper. I have a very small selection of incredibly versatile pieces which are on repeat a lot during the week and because of my Italian teacher, I've learned to invest in pieces that will not only last me a long time but will help me move along the week without people noticing them that much. After all, when we purchase something, we want to be able to use them as much as possible. Correct? Below I have included 5 pieces I strongly believe every woman should have for every day wear. It's a new year, so it's time to throw away those pieces that no longer serve us, and keep those versatile pieces.

Hace varios años atras fuí a Italia a tomar clases durante el verano. Mi profesora de Cinema tenia un estilo muy clásico italiano: elegante, sofisticado y minimalista. Yo asistia a sus clases todos los lunes, miercoles y viernes y darme cuenta el gran uso de blanco y negro fué evidente, pero lo que me tomó un poco más darme cuenta, fué la cantidad de veces que repetia piezas claves de su look. Su clásica camisa blanca no podía faltar por lo menos una vez por semana, siempre usaba la misma cartera y su cinturon negro de marca. Sus zapatos casi siempre eran los mismos. Lo que ella hacia era incorporar estos elementos como base en todos sus atuendos. De ella aprendi dos grandes lecciones de que hasta el dia de hoy las recuerdo: el consejo de 'menos es mas' realmente te hace ver más clásica y sofisticada y dos, aprender de versatilidad y piezas esenciales realmente te ahorrará no solo tiempo pero tambien dinero a futuro.

De seguro ustedes piensan que yo nunca repito atuendos. Todo lo contrario, yo no solo fuí una buena alumna de italiano, pero tambien aprendí mi lección de moda con ella. Mi closet es bastante pequeño y es porque me considero una compradora inteligente. Mi armario es compuesto de muchas piezas versatiles, las cuales repito de una u otra forma durante la semana. Una cartera clásica, mi blue jeans favorito, sandalias neutrales para diferentes ocasiones, gafas con actitud y la famosa camisa blanca, no pueden faltar. Es muy importante invertir un poco en piezas claves que simplificaran tu vida y que no solo les darás mucho uso, pero que tambien no serán tan obvias y puedas mezclarlas eficientemente lo mas que puedas sin que la gente se de mucha cuenta.
