Last week I had the privilege to attend Minas Trend in Belo Horizonte, Brazil! It was a very different experience to anything I've ever attended before as this unique event mixes business with fashion. On it's 18th edition, Minas Trend had over 130 showrooms filled with only the best of Brazilian fashion and the latest of designer's Spring/Summer 2017 collections which have not hit stores yet. This way, buyers get first pick on everything and journalists, get to see trends before anyone else. Because of this, it is extremely attractive for the most prestigious multi-brand stores and journalists to come to this event. Thanks to an invitation of Tex Brazil and Abit, myself as The Big Brown Eyes and 4 other journalists from Vogue Italia, Elle Portugal, WGSN and El Universal (Mexico) got the chance to see the very best of fashion not only from Minas Gerais, but from all over Brazil. La semana pasada tuve el privilegio de asistir por primera vez a Minas Trend en Belo Horizonte, Brasil. Una experiencia super diferente para mi ya que usualmente uno asiste a desfiles de moda pero no a un evento de este tipo. Les explico porqué. Minas Trend en su edición numero 18, es el evento más consolidado de Brasil ya que une moda con negocios. Hay más de 130 showrooms con todo lo último de las colecciones de los mejores diseñadores del país y listos para mostrar sus prendas a los compradores mas prestigiosos del mundo. De esta manera pueden escoger lo último y lo mejor- ya que nada ha salido todavía a la venta. Para los periodistas y en este caso, por cual asistií yo, fué para ver de primera mano todas las tendencias en la pasarela y un adelanto muy importante de las colecciones primavera/Verano 2017. Gracias a TexBrasil y Abit- dos asociaciones de mucho nivel en Brazil, 5 periodistas incluyendo Vogue Italia, Elle Portugal, WGSN, El Universal de Mexico y The Big Brown Eyes estuvimos en primera fila para poder mostrar lo mejor de la industria de moda brasileña. A beautiful collection for the daring woman- one who loves the contrast between the romantic and the sensual. The fabric tricot was the leading lady in this collection and it was portrayed in a wide variety of fresh colors such as mint, light blue and flesh tones. This collection was well received for it's great quality work and for the variety in pieces and cuts.
Una colección para la mujer osada que ama el contraste entre lo romántico y lo sensual. El tricot siendo el material protagonista de esta colección se lució en colores menta, azul claro, tonos piel y en sí, una variedad de colores frescos. Faven logró llamar mucho la atencion por su gran cálidad de trabajo y por su hermosa variedad de piezas y cortes.

Lino Villaventura and his Spring/Summer 2017 collection showed a variety in textures and sophisticated embroidery and beading. Black, white, and darker prints were the most dominant on the runway which made this collection very sophisticated and elegant. From shorts to incredibly worked dresses, Lino Villaventura showed a beautiful array of single pieces.
Lino Villaventura y su colección de Primavera/Verano 2017 se mostró con mucha textura y tejidos sofisticados. Los tonos utilizados: negro, blanco, y estampas exclusivas de la marca en tonos mas oscuros hicieron que la coleccion tenga alta sofisticación y elegancia. Desde shorts a vestidos bordados, Lino Villaventura mostró gran variedad de estilos.

Confraria, a beautiful environmentally conscious handbag line got it's inspiration for this Spring/Summer '17 collection from a feeling of nostalgia when families used to picnic outside on gardens. A lot of basket weave handbags resembling picnic baskets were see on the runway in many different sizes. My favorite? The small basket weave clutch!
Confraria una linea de bolsos enfocados en la responsabilidad social y la sustenibilidad mostró su colección Primavera/Verano 2017 en la pasarela de Minas Trend. La inspiración detrás de su linea fue el sentimiento de nostalgia de cuando las familias se reunían en sus jardines y compartian haciendo picnics. A base de esto se vió muchas piezas inspiradas en canastas de picnics, entre ellas, mi favorita: la pequeña carterita de mano de canasta.

Fabiana Milazzo opened the runways for the 18th edition of Minas Trend. To top it off? She included two of the biggest supermodels Brazil has ever had in her show: Isabeli Fontana and Caroline Ribeiro, in which Ribeiro is actual the face of the current brand's campaign. The great mix of embroidery with pearls and the use of denim were perhaps the most creative and beautiful pieces of the whole event. It is clear that this designer focuses strongly in originality, femininity and has a great eye for detail.
Fabiana Milazzo fué la diseñadora que abrió los shows en la pasarela del Minas Trend. Incluyó dos de las mas grandes modelos que jamas ha tenido Brazil: Isabeli Fontana y Caroline Ribeiro, siendo Ribeiro la imagen de su campaña actual. Fabiana Milazzo mostró unas de mis piezas favoritas de todos los shows: su trabajo con denim y bordado de perlas! Esto demuestra porqué es conocida por su originalidad, feminidad y su gran ojo por el detalle.

Lucas Magalhaes is a genius- an incredibly praised designer who proved why there is so much buzz around his name right now. He is so skilled with tricot/knitwear and has an incredible eye for letting the fabric do most of the work along with brilliant details of textures he included in his pieces. Most of his pieces were knee length skirts or dresses which portrayed a contrast between classic and modern. One of my favorite designers for sure!
Lucas Magalhaes es un genio- un diseñador muy popular en este momento y en esta presentación demostró porque hay tantos comentarios positivos sobre él. Su técnica y expertise con el tricot es evidente y lo diferenció con un particular uso de otras texturas y detalles para resaltar aun más la tela. La mayoría de sus piezas fueron faldas o vestidos hasta la rodilla que mostraron un hermoso contraste entre lo clasico y lo moderno. Por esto y mas, Lucas Magalhaes fue uno de mis top 3 favoritos de Minas Trend.

Sonia Pinto had the room completely packed for her presentation. It was unbelievable to sense such energy in the room when it was this designer's turn to showcase the best of her Winter 2016 collection. Even though most designers showed their Spring/Summer collections, Sonia Pinto said that's not the way that she works-instead she presents 5-6 different collections a year. Dark and with heavy fabrics, Sonia Pinto focuses on comfort above all and her target market is exactly the man or woman who wants comfort and quality in one.
Sonia Pinto tuvo la sala completamente llena para su presentación. Fue algo increíble poder sentir la energia que había en ese cuarto y la anticipacion que tenia la gente para ver lo mejor de Sonia Pinto y su coleccion de Invierno 2016. Ella a diferencia de los otros diseñadores presento Invierno en vez de Primavera/Verano ya que ella trabaja de una forma diferente haciendo 5-6 diferentes colecciones a su propio ritmo. Con telas pesadas y oscuras, el cliente que ama Sonia Pinto es uno que quiere comodidad, balance y calidad todo en uno.

The color dominated in the coleccion of Plural for Spring/Summer 2017. With abstract prints and vibrant colors this collection was very well received by the audience in Minas Trend. There were a lot of very attention-catching pieces but every single look had two things in common: easiness and comfort. A few pastel pink pieces were mixed along the presentation which opened up the collection to a different kind of woman, one that is reserved and soft. The color is definitely for the daring and fun Plural woman.
El color dominó en la coleccion Primavera/Verano 2017 de Plural. Con estampas abstractas y colores vibrantes, esta colección fue muy bien recibida por su gran variedad de piezas llamativas pero cómodas. Hubo un lindo balance entre los colores rosa pastel y las estampas coloridas- de esta manera se abrió a dos estilos de mujeres: una que es más reservada y romántica y una que es más osada y divertida. Mis piezas favoritas fueron los enterizos!

Closing Minas Trend was Viva by Vivaz, a younger and fresher take on the original brand Vivaz. A bit boho but chic to the max, Viva by Vivaz targets a very specific type of woman: one that loves fashion but uses it as a form of lifestyle and is every city's It Girl. Soft, delicate and flowy, the fabrics for me, were one the highlights of the collection especially when they mixed suede with flowy fabrics.
Cerrando la pasarela del Minas Trend estuvo Viva by Vivaz, una interpretacion mas juvenil y fresca que la linea original Vivaz. Con un toque boho pero chic al máximo, Viva by Vivaz es ideal para una mujer en especifico: aquella It Girl que existe en cada ciudad. Suave, delicada y con mucha fluidez, las telas y las combinaciones de ellas en los looks, fueron las que se llevaron el show. Mi look favorito fue el de la chaqueta de gamuza con la falda fluida en rosa!
